Chelsea Midfielder Mikel Obi Begs Conte For West Ham Chance

The midfielder would be hoping for his first appearance for the Blues against the Hammers, having been frozen out of Antonio Conte’s squad  John Obi Mikel is targeting a place in Chelsea’s squad against West Ham United in Wednesday’s English League Cup encounter.

The Nigeria international has not been considered for selection by Antonio Conte this season, and he hopes to get a chance against Slaven Bilic’s men at the Olympic Park.

“I hope I will get some playing time against West Ham, but it is down to the manager. He has been open and honest with me,” Mikel told Eveningstandard.  “I respect him for that. He has explained the situation and I totally understand. When you have been at a club for a long time, these things happen where a club wants to move forward.  “I just have to be professional, work as hard as I can to try and get into the team.

I work twice as hard every day and it’s because I appreciate this club.  “I have been here a long time, have a lot of trophies and memories that will never go away. If I don’t get back in the side, I will respect it. I always respect the football club’s decision. The club is more important than me.”

La Liga 2015-16: Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann Named Player of The Season

The World Player award, which goes to the best non-European player as selected by fans, went to Barcelona star and Uruguayan international Luis Suarez.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann was adjudged the La Liga player player of the 2015-2016 season at Spanish football`s annual awards gala here, where two of his club`s teammates and coach were also among the winners.
Atletico Club President Enrique Cerezo accepted the trophy on Griezmann`s behalf as the French international was unable to make the trip on Monday, reports Efe news agency.

“The truth is that he deserves it. Minutes before leaving the airport he received a personal call and he had to remain in Madrid and he was very sad because he was looking forward to being here,” Cerezo said of his team`s main offensive threat.

Griezmann also received the five-star trophy, which is awarded based on a vote among fans.

Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio took the breakout-player award for his performance last season on loan to Espanyol.

Atletico’s Jan Oblak was named best goalkeeper after a season that saw him concede only 18 goals in 3,420 minutes played, while fellow Colchonero Diego Godin was crowned best defender.

Diego Simeone, the architect of Atletico Madrid`s renaissance, walked away with the trophy for coach of the year.

“I want to share this with the technical staff, footballers, club, and my family,” the Argentine coach said. “Above all, I want to tell everyone that I am a lucky man.”

The best midfielder honours went to Real Madrid`s Luka Modric, who made a point of thanking his teammates.

The World Player award, which goes to the best non-European player as selected by fans, went to Barcelona star and Uruguayan international Luis Suarez.

Barca’s Lionel Messi got the prize for best forward of 2015-2016. Suarez and Messi also failed to attend the gala here last night.

Premium Times reported that the NCA stated that the accused who were earlier arrested on July 13 and subsequently released on bail, were charged last Friday in court after a three-year investigation into “alleged irregularities at the Sodje Sports Foundation”.

The Sodje Sports Foundation was registered on March 1, 2010, and was disbanded on January 22, 2015. The foundation has a motley of clearly unrelated aims, according to its record retrieved by the publication from website of the UK Charity Commission.

Some of its stated aims were to relieve poverty, advance good health in people through the provision of facilities in playing amateur sports and the promotion of lifelong learning, leadership skills and health issues such as HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, and nutrition. It also claimed to be focused on dealing with human rights violations such as “discrimination, equality and diversity issues (whether relating to race, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation or religion).”

Efetobore, the most popular of the Sodje brothers, played in the defence for the Super Eagles, the Nigerian senior national football team, at the 2000 African Cup of Nations, and the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan. The bandana-wearing defender had 12 caps scoring one goal in a 2-1 friendly win over the Republic of Ireland.

He was born in England and his footballing career included stint at clubs such as Huddersfield Town, Southend United, Crewe Alexandra, Bury and Macclesfield Town.

His other football-playing brother, Sam, did not play for the Nigeria national team but also had a good footballing career. He played in the English Premiership for Watford and West Brom.

Sorry Jose Mourinho And Man United Players Arrive Home After 4-0 Thrashing From Chelsea (Photos)

Former Chelsea boss Mourinho had a nightmare Stamford Bridge return.

A heavy 4-0 defeat at Chelsea – the former home of their boss Jose Mourinho – was hardly a cause for celebration for Manchester United’s players.

Mourinho and United’s players looked understandably downbeat on returning to Stockport late on Sunday evening…
The Old Trafford giants simply never got going against the Blues, falling behind to Pedro’s opener just 31 seconds into the game and failing to muster any kind of response to the Spaniard’s early strike. Gary Cahill made it 2-0 to the Blues before the break, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante completing the rout in the second half.

Now they’re back in Manchester, Mourinho has a real task on his hands to try and rejuvenate his United side.

I Was Too Honest ,Which Was My Downfall’-Super Eagle Striker Osaze Odemwingie Reveals

The 35 year old Super Eagles striker Peter Osaze Odemwingie has joked of his infamous failed move to QPR football club in 2013 where he drove 150miles to QPR’s training ground and appeared on television claiming he was hopeful a deal between then club West Brom and QPR would go ahead.

He referred to QPR as “we” in the interview, only for QPR to refuse signing him which turned the player a laughing stock among his west Brom team mates as he had already wished them goodbye.

According to Osaze, footballers now joke with the incident but he feels he was hard done by West Brom and even though he admits the video of him talking out of his car window like then QPR coach Harry Redknapp was a “big mistake”, his honesty cost him.

He said to Sun UK on Sunday:

“It gave me negative publicity but in the three clubs since I have laughed about it with my teammates. If someone at one of my other clubs left, we would call it an ‘Odemwingie’.”
“I was too honest, which was my downfall, and I have paid the price for that ever since. I wanted the move, everyone knew my intentions and I thought the deal was going to happen. It was a big mistake by me to go in front of a camera, but I definitely feel hard done by. West Brom felt I was forcing their hand, but it was not my call and it was partly their fault.

“I got all the publicity and had to answer all the questions, but there were lots of other people involved in the deal. The idea at the time was from one of the agents, and I can say 100 per cent I would never have done it otherwise. Have they, or anyone from West Brom given their side? No. They hung me out to dry. The terms were all of West Brom’s, none of mine. I accepted them, and then I drove down after saying my goodbyes assuming the move would happen only to look like a fool on camera.”

After the deal collapsed, he fell out with then West Brom owner Jeremy Peace and became a bench warmer– but says his reputation as a troublemaker is unfair.
He added:

“Steve Clarke (then West Brom coach) admitted the next day he thought it was going through, but I didn’t know at the time Junior Hoilett at QPR was going to go the other way, which muddied the water without my knowledge – so when he said it was ‘lunacy’ the next day, he knew the whole story. It was an odd atmosphere going back, as I promised my West Brom teammates to take them out for a meal to thank them for being supportive as I was a success at the club.”

Iheanacho, Mikel Obi, Three Others Shortlisted For 2016 CAF Player Awards

Iheanacho, Mikel Obi, Three Others Nigerians have been named to vie for the Glo-CAF African Player of the Year and the African Player of the Year (based in Africa) awards.

The England-based trio of Mikel John Obi, Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho have been listed in the running for the continent’s biggest individual prize in football – the African Player of the Year – alongside 27 other top stars including Riyad Mahrez, Samuel Eto’o, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andre Ayew, Victor Wanyama and Eric Bailly.

In the award for the players based in Africa, Enyimba and Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) record scorer Mfon Udoh as well as Chisom Chikatara, now with Wydad Athletic Club (WAC), are up against 23 other players featuring for different clubs on the continent.

Iheanacho, no doubt, has been named in the line-up for CAF’s biggest individual award following his impressive time at Manchester City since breaking into the first team of the English outfit. The 20-year-old has already scored four goals in four games for Nigeria this year.

Mikel, notably, led the Nigeria under-23 team to a bronze medal finish at the Summer Olympics in Brazil while Musa was the kingpin in CSKA Moscow’s title win in Russia before he crossed to English champions Leicester City.

Enyimba star Udoh, on the other hand, currently leads the goal-scorers’ chart in this year’s CAF Champions League. He has scored nine goals and unless Zamalek’s Bassem Morsy can score six more over two legs in the final against Mamelodi Sundowns, then the Nigerian forward will take that individual prize. CAF is expected to trim the number of nominees before the end of the year. The Glo-CAF Awards takes place in Abuja on January 5, 2017.
